CDDO Profile: Community Driven Development Organization (CDDO) is a non-profit organization based in Afghanistan. It was founded by a core team of experienced Afghans, many of whom were key management team members from the Citizens' Charter National Priority Program (CCNPP) and National Solidarity Program (NSP). These team members have been actively engaged in development work in Afghanistan for the past two to three decades and have led various national flagship community development programs. The organization's team has a strong background in collaborating with the Afghan government, the World Bank, United Nations agencies, national and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs), as well as the private sector. The team’s experience spans various sectors, enabling them to effectively design, manage, and implement inclusive community-driven services, relief efforts, emergency response and community-based education programs and projects, with a primary focus on rural development. CDDO’s team has the direct experience of establishing, capacitating, and working with over 36,000 CDCs through implementation of NSP, CCNPP, MCCG and REACH in over 90% of the country since 2003. CDDO was established with an aim to maintain this vast community-based development and humanitarian network of CDCs as well as to retain the capacity of former NSP, CCNPP, MCCG and REACH PIU teams (over 3,000 trained personnel) to the extent possible. Experience: Since the inception of CDDO in 2021, it has managed to implement Humanitarian Aid projects, Cash for Work projects and Education projects in different communities, provinces, and districts in Afghanistan. CDDO is active in different provinces and are implementing development projects in Kabul, Khost, Paktika, Paktya, Logar, Ghazni, Kandahar, Laghman Badakhshan, Balkh, Hirat, Faryab, Kapisa, Nangahar, Samangan, Logar, Bamyan, Parwan and Badghis. These projects are emergency food distribution, Cash for Work Projects, Digital Cash transfer to women headed households, Community Based early warning and particularly Education projects. CDDO has recently concluded a pilot project that provided online tutoring to girls in grade 7, 8 and 9. After the successful completion of the first pilot in Kabul province, CDDO with its partner organization Youth Impact (https://www.youth-impact.org) is going to the second phase of the pilot by expanding it to rural areas of Afghanistan, the second Phase will cover girls of grade 7,8 and 9 in Ghazni, Balkh and Badakhshan. The ultimate objective for this project is to cover around 5 to 10 thousand young girls who are banned from attending schools. Scope: CDDO's scope of work revolves around rural development and community-driven initiatives. CDDO has a broad geographical presence, covering a vast majority of Afghanistan, which showcases its ability to operate in challenging environments. CDDO’s projects and programs encompass a wide range of areas, including infrastructure development, agriculture, livelihood improvement and education. Moreover, CDDO’s scope involves working closely with CDCs to empower local communities, foster sustainable practices, and enhance social and economic well being. Capacity: With over 300 staff at Kabul and provinces, CDDO has establish offices in Kabul (HQ), Ghazni, Khost, Paktika, Paktya, Logar, Nangarhar, Hirat, Kandahar and Balkh. CDDO staff at HQ and provinces are well experienced and has been engaged with community led development from 4 to 20 years, in addition to this CDDO has a roaster of more than 3,000 trained personnel who were associated with the implementation of various projects in Afghanistan. This capacity demonstrates the ability of CDDO to handle large-scale development initiatives, respond effectively to emergencies, and mobilize resources for community-driven projects. Additionally, CDDO's partnerships with government entities, international organizations, NGOs, and the private sector further enhance their capacity to create a positive and lasting impact on Afghan communities. Outreach: CDDO through the network of more than 3,000 former CCNNP, NSP, MCCG, CASA-CSP and REACH PIU personnel is connected to over 36,000 CDCs in all 34 provinces and in more than 330 districts of Afghanistan. 81% of this team is located in districts and has a vast experience working with rural and pre-urban communities. The majority of CDDO’s team (in roster) is comprised of female and male social organizer and engineers who have been trained for years to work with the CDCs and wider rural populations in rural and semi-urban areas and they are ready to continue working. |
